Vocational coordinators are an important part of our claims teams. They assist in managing claims from injured workers by evaluating and managing the vocational aspects of the claim. Vocational coordinators also provide technical support to claims adjusters as well as supervisory and management staff.

Specific Duties

  • Responsible for being the primary phone representative for the Claims Office. Must possess excellent communication skills and a style that promotes SDAO and its clients in a positive and helpful manner.
  • Must be proficient at independently managing and completing multiple tasks and projects at one time.
  • Responsible for the stamping and proper packaging of all outgoing mail and delivering it to the post office or approved pickup box. Responsible for picking up the mail at designated time; and opening all mail and disseminating it throughout the office on a daily basis.
  • Responsible for the postage machine, its operation and keeping the proper amount of postage available at all times.
  • Responsible to manage the supply inventory and maintain an acceptable level of supplies within the claims office.
  • Assist with sending and retrieving files from storage for the claims department.
  • Responsible to support Claims staff by performing data entry, Property and Casualty Claims set up, enter and manage new vendors being added into the claims system, track W-9's for Worker's Compensation and Property Casualty Departments.
  • Responsible for maintaining and managing the filing system for the Property and Casualty program.
  • Assist Claims Department in preparing reports and seminars for SDAO members and staff.
  • Must possess strong skills in computer applications such as Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook and Internet Explorer. This includes exceptional grammar and proofreading skills.
  • Must be able to reasonably master the claims administration computer system and be able to accurately manage and enter data. This includes the running of loss reports, check registers, inputting of Time & Expense billings etc.
  • Must have strong typing skills that allow the efficient and accurate input of claims information.
  • Attend training seminars and classes as determined by Claims Services Manager.
  • Any other like duties as assigned by the Claims Services Manager.

Training and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires High School Diploma and 3 years experience in the form of office support and task management.

Licensing Requirements:

  • Valid Driver's license
  • Must be able to provide proof of Auto Insurance that complies with current minimum standards.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force
  • Must be able to bend, stoop and climb as necessary to move claim files and boxes containing claim files.

THE POSITION
The Workers Compensation/Disability Analyst reviews, analyzes and investigates standard to moderately difficult workers compensation and disability claims and makes determinations of compensability in accordance with requirements of state and local law, code and regulation; establishes case claims reserves within authorized limits; performs case management functions; and performs related duties as assigned. The Workers Compensation/Disability Analyst works with bureau managers and supervisors, treating physicians and employee representatives to facilitate early return-to-work for employees, including coordinating light duty assignments, making work site accommodations or developing modified duty placements. TO QUALIFY
Applicants must possess:

  • Knowledge of provisions of Oregon state law, workers compensation rules and case law pertaining to administration of the City's workers compensation program, including provisions regarding occupational injuries, vocational rehabilitation, accommodation of injured workers and claims adjudication requirements.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, methods and techniques of claims management and benefits administration, including case management, reserving standards, investigation, subrogation, and return to work.
  • Ability to read and interpret medical records, case investigations and physical capacity evaluations and reach sound conclusions regarding eligibility for benefits payments and return-to-duty capability.
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise, accurate and comprehensive documentation, records, reports and other written materials.
